KL Chess round 4

GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, GM Dzhumaev, and CM Farid Firman Syah leading

GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, GM Dzhumaev, and CM Farid Firman Syah are the leaders of the KL Open 2009. They share the top of the table with 3,5/4 points, followed by a large pack of players with 3,0 and 2,5 points.

International Master Dede Liu, once Indonesia’s hottest young prospect has in recent years returned to chess, was the sole leader after 3 rounds of the KL Open Chess Championship. He was the only player with 3,0/3, but was defeated in the next round by Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son.

The biggest upset so far came in the second round when Grandmaster Susanto Megaranto (Indonesia) walked into a mate when pressing for a win in the endgame against Candidate Master Nguyen Hoang Nam (Vietnam).

Making waves is 13 year old Masruri Rahman (indonesia), the World Schools Champion 2009 (U-13 Category) with draws against Grandmasters Saidali Iuldachev and Nguyen Anh Dung.

The 2nd KL Open and Young Talent Team Championship 2009 is organized by the Kuala Lumpur Chess Association with sponsorship from the Malaysian Intellectual Development Foundation and Masterskill University College of Health Sciences. The official site is www.klchess.com.
