Samvel Ter-Sahakyan and Maria Gevorgyan win the Armenian Chess Championship 2023

The 83rd Armenian Championship Highest League and the 78th Armenian Women’s Championship Highest League took place from 13–21 January 2023 in Yerevan, Armenia. The events were played as 10-player round-robin tournaments, determining the 2023 Armenian national chess champions.

GM Samvel Ter-Sahakyan emerged as the sole Winner of the Open Championship. Ter-Sahakyan started the event with a loss, scoring 6.5 points in the last eight rounds to become the Armenian Chess Champion for 2023. GM Manuel Petrosyan trailed by half a point, winning silver, while GM Robert Hovhannisyan and GM Tigran Harutyunyan tied for bronze with 5.5 points each. Tiebreak criteria favored Hovhannisyan who came third and Harutyunyan finished the event in the fourth place. Scroll down for final rankings

WGM Maria Gevorgyan won the 78th Armenian Women’s Championship Highest League scoring 7 points. Gevorgyan suffered a huge upset in the second round losing to Kobak Polina – one of the lowest-rated players in the event, but stroke back and emerged as the sole winner of the event. WIM Susanna Gaboyan clinched silver with 6.5 points and WFM Arpine Grigoryan came third with 5.5 points. Scroll down for final rankings
