Filipino born US Grandmaster Wesley So is back on track. After a dramatic finish of the US Championship, the young talent has bounced back in the best possible way – with a victory in round 1 of Shamkir 2015.
Wesley So, playing the white pieces, defeated Anish Giri. In a very unconventional opening for top chess, Wesley So took the initiative early in the game.
He made use of an imprecision by black at moves 19 and 20. In deep time trouble, Anish Giri succumbed under pressure with 25…Rb8. Wesley So continued with the right plan and sealed the game in 32 moves.
