The US Chess Championship 2022 commenced yesterday in Saint Louis and takes place from 5-20 October at the Saint Louis Chess Club. Fourteen of the country’s strongest chess players battle for the national title and $60,000 in a classical round-robin event with Fabiano Caruana, Levon Aronian and Wesley So headlining the field which includes Hans Niemann as the 8th seed.
Defending US Chess Champion Wesley So was not satisfied with his Round 1 draw to Awonder Liang and regretted his opening choice after the game. Wesley faces 15-year-old Christopher Yoo in the second round of the event, taking white pieces. Follow the game live:
