Artur Pomar International Open

An open tournament dedicated to legendary Grandmaster Artur Pomar will take place from 20-26th November at the Hotel Horizonte in Palma de Mallorka, Spain.

The event will be held concurrently with the final leg of FIDE World Chess Grand Prix. The organizers are Federacio Balear d’Escacs and Chess Mallorca.

The tournament format is 7-round Swiss with the prize fund of 3500 EUR and 700 EUR reserved for the winner.

Arturo Pomar Salamanca (1 September 1931 in Palma de Mallorka – 26 May 2016) was a chess prodigy and first Spanish player to be awarded the title of grandmaster (GM).

Pomar was Spanish champion seven times (1946, 1950, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1962, and 1966) and represented his country in twelve consecutive Chess Olympiads.
