GM Mikheil Kekelidze defends the trophy in Eastern Class Championships

The 22nd Annual Eastern Class Championships were held from March 15-17, 2013, at the Host Hotel at Cedar Lake, 366 Main St, Sturbridge, Massachusetts.

Grandmasters Mikheil Kekelidze and Alexander Fishbein finished at the top of the standings in the Master Section completing the tournament with 4,0/5 points each.

Kekelidze was awarded the 1st place bonus by virtue of a better tie-breaks and took home $1,200 while Fishbein collected $1,135. Mikheil Kekelidze also won the last year’s Eastern Class.

Master section final standings:
1-2. GM Mikheil Kekelidze 2598 NY and GM Alexander Fishbein 2557 NJ – 4.0
3-4. IM Marc Esserman 2576 MA and FM William Kelleher 2388 MA – 3.5
5-7. Denys Konstantin Shmelov 2509 MA, Peter Gokhvat 2303 ISR and Alex Miche Fikiet 2294 CT – 3.0 etc (17 players)

The event had a $16,000 prize fund based on 200 paid entries with $12,000 guaranteed.

There were 7 sections: Master, Expert, Class A, Class B, Class C, Class D and Class E. All sections had either 3-day (March 15-17) or 2-day (March 16-17) schedules to play in.
