The best female chess player of all times GM Judit Polgar does a daily broadcast of the FIDE Candidates Chess 2022 together with GM Jan Gustafsson. During the 9th round, Judit shared interesting thoughts on Nepomniachtchi’s games and compared him to the chess legend Garry Kasparov: “I remember when I was a kid, and I was looking Kasparov’s games, you could find quite a few games where people lost in a way that people wouldn’t lose against other strong grandmasters the same way. Somehow he (Kasparov) was sitting there and you felt that the opponent was hypnotized. And actually, I feel the same thing here with Nepo in some games.”. She then mentioned the shocking situation that happened in the game between Rapport and Nepomniachtchi when Rapport declined to repeat the moves for a draw and chose to go into a clearly worse position, eventually losing the game: “I mean, how is it possible that Rapport really knew that things are not that really good and he just goes on, right?!”.
“Nepo doesn’t have this magic, but in some of the games, I feel that people go nuts against him,” added Judit. See the video below. Replay the Candidates R9 broadcast with GM Judit Polgar and GM Jan Gustafsson here.
