Magnus Carlsen lands in Chennai for FWCM 2013 (updated 2)

fwcm 2013 official logoThe Challenger for the World Chess Championship 2013 Magnus Carlsen has landed in Chennai this afternoon. Carlsen came with Omar Air flight WY0253 at 18:15 local time and was met by a multitude of journalists and local fans.

Carlsen received a proper welcome at Kamaraj International Airport by FIDE vice-president D V Sundar, AICF President J C D Prabhakar and World Championship Organising Secretary V. Hariharan. “The Mozart of Chess” was glad to share a few worlds with the journalists. “I am coming from Oman, where I prepared for the past two weeks,” reveals Carlsen. The Norwegian prodigy also stated that he does not worry so much about the food, and he concentrates on his opponent Viswanathan Anand.

Carlsen will be in Chennai surrounded by his family in the first days of the World Championship. His mother, his father, and his sisters will be present in Hyatt Regency hotel. He will also have his personal chef and a Norwegian-speaking bodyguard.

His opponent, the defending World Champion Viswanathan Anand, has moved into Hyatt Regency hotel in Chennai last Friday, accompanied by his wife and manager Aruna Anand and his son Akhil.

Update 17:23 CET: a joint press conference with Anand and Carlsen was confirmed for November 7th, the day of the opening ceremony
