“Magnus should decide whether he’ll play the next match 5 mins before the final round starts”

The FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022 reached its halfway and Ian Nepomniachtchi and Fabiano Caruana separated themselves from the rest of the field, with the score of 4.5 and 4 points, respectively. While chess statisticians evaluated Nepo with almost 55% chances to win the event, Anish Giri shares his opinion that the World Championship Match will be played between Nepo and Fabi, putting again the focus on the known question – Will Magnus Carlsen play the Match or he’ll withdraw?

MrDodgy (the CEO of Chefable and Tournament Director of MrDodgy Invitational 2022) says Magnus should decide whether he’ll play the next (World Championship) Match five minutes before the start of the final round of the FIDE Candidates 2022. However, the FIDE Handbook doesn’t include the rules of withdrawal timing from the FIDE World Chess Championship Match, but only explains the replacement procedure:

If one of the participants of the World Championship Match 2023 refuses to play, he shall
be replaced by the player who finished second in the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2022.
