Olga Girya wins AICF-KIIT Chess Cup 2013

Russian WGM Olga Girya finished in clear first place at the AICF–KIIT Chess Cup, International Category Woman Chess Championship 2013, that took place on 17-27th March at the Banquet Hall, Campus -6, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, India.

Second place went to Armenian IM Lilit Mkrtchian who ended up half a point behind the winner. Chinese WGM Guo Qi got the third place after getting a better tiebreak score than GM Elina Danielan.

This was India’s strongest ever women’s tournament. The prize fund totaled Rs. 920000/-.

The AICF-KIIT cup was aimed at providing top level opposition to the Indian talents. The benchmark event is likely to trigger some more women’s only tournaments in the country which are currently a rarity apart from various national championships.
