World Youth Chess Championship 2012 in Maribor, Slovenia

The World Youth Chess Championship 2012 will take place in Maribor, Slovenia, 7-19 November. This year a total of 1587 young players will participate in the age categories. It is the most important youth chess event of the year, and therefore we see strong participation of all world young talents, including titled players as GM Dariusz Swiercz (Poland), FM David Anton Guijarro (Spain), IM Benjamin Bok (Netherlands), IM Karen Grigoryan (Armenia), GM Jorge Cori (Peru), IM Maxime Lagarde (France), GM Hovhannes Gabuzyan (Armenia), GM Vladimir Fedoseev (Russia), GM Ivan Bukavshin (Russia), Alexandr Predke (Russia), IM Urii Eliseev (Russia), IM Daniel Forcen Esteban (Spain), IM Vladislav Kovalev (Belarus), etc. It is not an easy task presenting such a galaxy of young stars, so daily on Chessdom.com you will be able to read the presentation of one age group.

The World Youth Chess Championship 2012 is organized by The Municipality of Maribor and Šahohlačnik, under the patronage of the Government of Republic Slovenia and Slovenian Chess Federation. The opening ceremony will be held on the 8th of November 2012 at 14.30, before the start of the first round, in the tournament hall (Sports center Dras). Regulations of the World Youth Chess 2012

The tournament will be played using the Swiss system with 11 rounds. The rate of play will be 90 minutes for the first 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an addition of 30 seconds per move starting from move one. The final ranking order of the players is determined by the number of points scored, with tiebreaks being 1) Direct encounter 2) Buchholz Cut 1 3) Buchholz 4) The greater number of wins.
According to article 7.2 of the Technical regulations of the World Youth Chess 2012, the zero default time will be applied i.e. any player who arrives at the chessboard after the start of the session will lose the game.

Maribor as host city of the World Youth 2012

Maribor has rich and very successful tradition in organizing big sports events. The most known is probably “Golden Fox”- race for the Ski World Cup with its 50 repetitions. Countless sports objects and natural possibilities for various sports are our trademark in the World. The city has also the beautiful river Drava that divides City in two parts and with green hill Pohorje which practically lies on the edge of the City Center. This year Maribor is proud European Capital of Culture and during this time it will host many attractive events. Chess and the program Black & White World are an important part the celebration and The World Youth Championship 2012 is one of the topic events of this program.
