The knockout phase of the Chess.com Global Chess Championship kicked off today and it will be played from September 14 to October 9. The Knockout part of the event features 32 players who qualified from the Play-in CGC tournaments and 32 invited players. 64 players are divided in eight groups, and the Winners of each group will move on to the CGC Finals which will take place from 2-9 November in Toronto, Canada. Remaining 56 players will share the total prize fund of $440,000 for the CGC Knockout. A very strong CGC Knockout line-up includes Hikaru Nakamura, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Wesley So, Fabiano Caruana, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Anish Giri, Ding Liren and Levon Aronian who are topping the respective groups: Group A, Group B, Group C, Group D, Group E, Group F, Group G, and Group H.
The participants of the Group D are: Fabiano Caruana, Gata Kamsky, Kirill Alekseenko, Dmitry Andreikin, Vladimir Fedoseev, Aram Hakobyan, Jose Eduardo Martinez Alcantara, and Martyn Kravtsiv. The first match in the Group D will be played between Kirill Alekseenko and Jose Martinez. The match starts on Wednesday, September 14th, at 18:00 CEST.
