The magnificent Palacio de Santoña, a centrally located historic building in Madrid, will become the venue of the most anticipated chess tournament of 2022. Built in 1730, this mansion boasts of distinguished carved granite baroque façade and is home to one of the most refined eclectic interiors in the Spanish capital. Participants of the 2022 Candidates Chess are slowly gathering in Madrid, as Fabiano Caruana, Teimour Radjabov and Alireza Firouzja already arrived in the Spanish capital. Ding Liren has started his travel from China and is expected to be the last player to arrive for the Candidates Tournament, while Firouzja today inspected the playing venue, and Caruana took part in the opening press conference. Richard Rapport is now on his way to Madrid, traveling with legendary Serbian grandmaster Ljubomir Ljubojevic.
