GM Maxime Lagarde wins Biel Rapid 2022

The 2022 Biel Rapid Chess Tournament took place yesterday at the Main stage of the Concert Hall, Biel Congress Center within the Biel International Chess Festival 2022. The event attracted 78 entries who competed over 9 swiss rounds, with time control: 15 minutes + 5 seconds of increment.

GM Maxime Lagarde and GM Eduardo Iturrizaga tied for the first place scoring 7.5/9 points, each. Tiebreak criteria favored the French grandmaster who, only a few days after lifting a trophy in Sautron, triumphed in the 2022 Biel Rapid tournament. GM Yu Yangyi and GM Shant Sargsyan scored 7 points each to tie for the third place, with Yu Yangyi claiming bronze thanks to better tiebreaks. The total prize fund of the event was 4.750 CHF, with 1.200 CHF reserved for the Winner of the event. (Scroll down for final rankings)
