The Clericus International Chess Championship 2012 will take place on 5-7th October at CSI, Italian Sports Center – National Office, via della Conciliazione 1, in Rome.
The International Open Chess Championship and Italian Open Chess Championship are available for the priests, religious brothers, sisters and nuns of every order recognized by the Holy See and the Italian and foreign seminarians regardless of citizenship.
The event will also serve to help the evaluation if it possible to establish the Vaticano Chess Federation.
The tournament is open to all players, regardless of the Elo rating or category of membership. There will be 8 rounds with Swiss pairings and time control of 30 min per player.
There will be an international general classification and an Italian classification for the two titles. Medals / memorabilia for all participants.
The event has already had an appreciation and approval of the CEI – Italian Episcopal Conference and, if necessary, it will be possible to have official letters from the Mons. Claudio Paganini, National Ecclesiastical Advisor of CSI – Italian Sports Centre to encourage participation before reserves of your Bishops.
Pre-registration is obligatory. Pre-registration must be made by e-mail by filling out the form (available at www.giocandoconire.it or www.csi-net.it) by return mail address email@example.com by 04/10/2012.
The participants coming from greater distance are advised to arrive on Thursday evening with an overnight stay to avoid delays in the start of the event. Pre-registration will be confirmed in the game room before the start of the first round of the tournament.
Given that the playing venue is located in Rome and Vatican area, you are free to organize your own journey there and back and your stay at the hotels / religious hose.
On Saturday 6th October at 12:30 there will be a Conference “Chess and the church: Saints in the game”. Speakers: President of FSI – Italian Chess Federation Mr. Gianpietro Pagnoncelli, Mons. Claudio Paganini, National Ecclesiastical Advisor of “Italian Sports Center”, the Coordinator of the UISP-Italian Union of Sport for All-League Chess Prof. Alberto Collobiano, Moderated by Dr. Joseph Sgro.
