After taking part in his first-ever super-tournament – 2022 Sinquefield Cup, 19-year-old Hans Niemann will be back in Saint Louis Chess Club in November playing the Saint Louis Chess Club Fall Chess Classic, confirmed Tony Rich, the executive director of the Saint Louis Chess Club. The event will take place from 1-11 November and will be played as a 10-player round-robin tournament.
The Saint Louis Chess Club annually organizes four Chess Classic tournaments: Spring Chess Classic, Summer Chess Classic, Fall Chess Classic and Winter Chess Classic. Hans Niemann competed in the 2022 Spring tournament where he scored 4/9 points finishing in 7th place. The previous (Summer Chess Classic) event was held from 1-11 June, with Yu Yangyi clinching the title.
After Hans Niemann defeated the World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen in the third round of the Sinquefield Cup 2022, Carlsen decided to withdraw from the tournament without detailed explanations. Rumors that Magnus Carlsen suspected Niemann was cheating started spreading over social media and the 19-year-old American grandmaster explained that he was facing huge mental pressure during the event. Sinquefield Cup Chief Arbiter published the official statement that there are no indications that any player has been playing unfairly in the tournament. Before the Fall Chess Classic in Saint Louis, Niemann will participate in the 2022 Julius Baer Generation Cup where he’ll again face the World Chess Champion, Magnus Carlsen.
