Katowice World University Championship – Round 8 Video

WUC Katowice 2014The 13th World University Chess Championship 2014 is in progress in the splendid city of Katowice, center of science, culture, industry, business, trade fair/exhibitions and transportation in the Upper Silesia region and southern Poland.

The 16th most economically powerful city by GDP in the European Union holds the prestigious World University Chess Championship from 18th to 24th August 2014 at the Conference Center (6th floor) of the Park Hotel Diament Katowice.

Six players are on top of the Men’s Tournament after 7 rounds: GM Ivan Bukavshin (Russia), GM Ruiyuan Yu (China), GM Karen Grigoryan (Armenia), GM Jan Bernasek (Czech Republic), GM Aleksandr Shimanov (Russia) and GM Jacek Tomczak (Poland) on 5 points each. They will play in-between each other in the eighth round. Follow the encounters Yu-Shimanov, Bukavshin-Tomczak and Grigoryan-Bernasek LIVE at the Chess Arena

WIM Klaudia Kulon is storming through the Women’s Section. The 22-year-old girl, part of the Polish Olympic Team, is just unstoppable. She has an amazing 7/7 score, adding 62 (!) ELO points to her rating. Klaudia outplayed her main rivals Chinese WGM Yixin Ding (2449) and Mongolian IM Batkhuyag Munguntuul (2410), playing at performance 3055!
