Cheating allegations and the recent “Carlsen – Niemann” chess drama became the top story of the news channels, magazines, and newspapers worldwide, among them: CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera, Vice, DW News, The Guardian, Washington Post, The Ney York Times etc. Magnus Carlsen yesterday published the official statement on the whole case, publicly accusing Hans Niemann of cheating, setting the chess world on fire.
A day after, World Chess Champion joined the Early Titled Tuesday on chess.com. Carlsen scored 8.5/11 points in the event, tying from 8-15 place in the online tournament that attracts world-known grandmasters. It is interesting that Carlsen had Black pieces in seven out of 11 played games and tweeted after the event: “@chesscom How on earth do I get seven black games in eleven rounds??? Cancelling my diamond membership and never coming back“. Hikaru Nakamura mocked Carlsen for the written tweet answering with two words: “L+ratio”, and Carlsen responded with “Sad but true, mogul move throwing the last game did not even work“. The fans started questioning if Magnus Carlsen was joking or he took the issue seriously, but it seems that Carlsen allowed the community to draw their own conclusions and joined Late Titled Tuesday which started a few hours later.
